1st Round East Region: Musketeers too much for Weber State

Earlier today the fifteenth-seeded Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders pulled an improbable upset over the second-seeded Michigan State Spartans.  This marked only the eighth time in the history of the NCAA Tournament that a fifthteenth-seed has advanced to the round of 32.  The Wildcats of Weber State were trying to emulate what Middle Tennessee State was able to do, but Xavier had other ideas.  Xavier’s Trevon Bluiett hit a three-pointer on the first possession of the game to give the Musketeers a lead they would never lose.  Xavier held a steady lead throughout most of the game.  Weber State cut the deficit to 54-47 with just under 10 minutes to go in the second half but could never make a run to get any closer.  For Xavier, senior forward James Farr had a monster game coming off the bench.  Farr notched a game high 18 points and pulled down an impressive 15 rebounds to go along with two blocked shots.  Jalen Reynolds, Remy Abell, and Trevon Bluiett all were in double figures for the Musketeers of the Big East.  Reynolds had 12, Abell put up 11, and Bluiett chipped in 10.  The Wildcats were dealt a huge blow when starting guard Ryan Richardson went down with an injury just four minutes into the game.  This left Weber State undermanned the rest of the way.  Joel Bolomboy scored a team high 14 points and McKay Cannon added 10 for the Wildcats.

Xavier moves on to battle Wisconsin in the round of 32.
