Iowa

Recently, Iowa has struggled. It has been obvious. In the Big Ten Tournament, Iowa lost in a close one to a torrid Illinois team 68-66. They would look to defeat a Temple Owls team who finished 21-12 and were the American Athletic Conference regular season champion. The Hawkeyes came into the game losing six of their last eight games and five of their last six NCAA Tournament games. However, at the end of this one, the Hawkeyes would not have lost six of their last seven. It took overtime to do it…but the Hawkeyes would defeat the Owls on a buzzer beater by 7-foot-1 Adam Woodbury.

With Iowa leading 38-37 at half, we knew it would end up being a good game. The second half was back and forth until time expired with the score tied at 63. In the overtime period, scoring came far and far between with the scoring in single digits. Iowa fouls and Daniel Dingle of Temple had to go to the line to shoot free throws…which he missed. With 2.1 seconds to go, Iowa fouls again. Quinton DeCosey ties it up, making both of his free throws. Iowa called timeout to draw up the play to win the game. When play resumed, Mike Gessel shoots from about ten feet out and misses. Woodbury is there to get the rebound and put it back in for the game winner.

In the game, Jarrod Uthoff scored 23 for the Hawkeyes, Peter Jok ended up scoring 16, and the aforementioned Woodbury scored only 10 for Hawkeyes. DeCosey led the way for the Owls, scoring 26 points.

Iowa moves on to play #2-seeded Villanova on Sunday.
