1st Round East Region: Ferrell leads IU past Chattanooga

Indiana

Like I have previously stated, senior leaders come in handy in March when experience sometimes trumps talent.  What also helps is when your experience comes from the best player on your team and Naismith Award semi-finalist.  Kevin “Yogi” Ferrell has been leading Indiana to wins for years.  Ferrell averaged 17 points and nearly 6 assists a game during the regular season and continued to fill up the stat sheet in his first tournament game by dropping a team and game-high 20 points to go along with 10 assists.  Max Bielfeldt, the reigning Big Ten sixth-man of the year, scored 10 points off the bench and hauled in 7 rebounds. OG Anunoby, Thomas Bryant, and  Troy Williams chipped in for the Hoosiers with 14, 13 and 12 points apiece.  The Mocs from Chattanooga were 1-0 against teams from the Big Ten with a win over Illinois early in the regular season coming into this game.  They were led in scoring by Duke Ethridge with 14 points.  The Mocs stayed tough early and at one point held a 7-7 lead, the Big Ten regular season conference champions proved to be too much to handle as they pulled away with an easy win.

Indiana will move on to square off against the Kentucky Wildcats.  Yogi Ferrell going against Tyler Ulis for a shot at the Sweet-Sixteen–it doesn’t get much better than that.
