Crimsons draw Rochester in Regionals

On Thursday February 18, 2015, Regional seeds were announced. According to my early predictions, the Crimsons could have been up for a number 1 seed in their sub-sectional which features Springfield Lanphier, Southeast, and Decatur MacArthur. At the time, it was unknown which seed Jacksonville would get. It was announced on February 18 that the Crimsons would receive a 4 seed in the Sub-Sectional. This means that the 1st seed as well as, the 4th, 7th, 9th, and 10th seeds would come to the Bowl for Regionals. When the brackets came out for the regionals, Jacksonville found out who they would face for the first round.

The Crimsons drew Rochester for the first round. Rochester is a team that the Crimsons have already beaten twice this year. In the Non-City schools tournament, the Crimsons defeated the Rockets at the Bowl 76-54, and on February 20, the Crimsons defeated the Rockets again on Rochester’s senior night 56-45. Rochester would come in with a record of 10-19.

The winner of the JHS/Rochester game will face the winner of the Lanphier and Springfield High/Sacred Heart Griffin match up. Let’s just assume at this point that Lanphier would advance, as well as Jacksonville. This would set up another Jacksonville/Lanphier contest just  three weeks after Jacksonville defeated Lanphier in a game that was laced with controversy. Of course, if that would happen, the game would be a much anticipated rubber match between the two teams. On December 11, the Lions defeated the Crimsons at Lober-Lika Gymnasium in Springfield, and three weeks ago on February 12, Jacksonville defeated Lanphier in a controversial buzzer beater with .06 seconds left which put Jacksonville ahead 58-56. However, this time it would be for the regional championship.

Of course, as of right now, the JHS vs Lanphier  matchup or the Regional title is all speculation. It would be nice to face Lanphier for a third time and hopefully beat them again. But first, JHS needs to get through Rochester on March 2 at home.
