Rams roll Buccaneers

In the Rams’ last home game of the year, and possibly the last game for the franchise in St. Louis as the relocation talks continue to take place, the Rams got out to a huge lead and were able to hold off a late comeback attempt by Tampa Bay.

St. Louis, and their all yellow color-rush uniforms, took the lead on a seventeen-yard touchdown reception by Tavon Austin on the game’s first possession.  Tampa Bay was able to cut into the deficit with a field goal on their first drive.  On the next Rams possession, quarterback Case Keenum hooked up with wide-out Kenny Britt on a double move for a sixty-yard touchdown strike.  The teams both punted on their next drives, but St. Louis was able to go on a long drive at the end of second quarter as rookie sensation Todd Gurley plunged into the end zone from three yards out to give the Rams a 21-3 lead heading into halftime.

Tampa Bay added another field goal on the first drive of the second half, but St. Louis answered yet again.  Tavon Austin scored yet again, this time on a twenty-one yard touchdown run on an end-around, and the third quarter ended with the Rams up 28-6.  The Buccaneers, however, weren’t ready to throw in the towel just yet.  Luke Stocker caught a three-yard touchdown from Jameis Winston to cut the lead to 28-13.  The Rams’ next drive resulted in a Greg Zuerlein field goal that pushed the lead to 31-13 with a little over ten minutes to go in the game.  It’s over now, right? Think again. Tampa Bay got a field goal of their own and then got the ball back, Winston found Austin Seferian-Jenkins in the end zone to cut the lead to 31-23 with a minute and a half remaining.  St. Louis was able to run out the clock and escape with a win to move their record to 6-8.  Tampa Bay fell to 6-8 with the loss.

Quarterback Case Keenum had his best game as the Rams’ signal caller.  The University of Houston product went 14-17 for 234 yards and two touchdowns.  Aaron Donald once again bolstered the Rams defense recording five tackles and two tackles for loss.  Trumaine Johnson led the team in tackles with nine and picked off Jameis Winston in the fourth quarter to help seal the win.

The Rams’ final two games come on the road against two divisional opponents whom they have defeated earlier this season.  First, they travel to San Francisco to take on the struggling 49ers.  They cap off their season in Seattle where they will battle the red-hot Seahawks.
