Illinois Game

On September 26, the Jacksonville J’ettes and cheerleaders had the opportunity to perform at the Illini football game halftime show along with other high school dance and cheer squads from Illinois.

In order to prepare for their performance, the J’ettes and Cheerleaders were given a series of videos to watch.  These videos provided choreography and critiques for the halftime routine.  In order to be prepared for the practice held prior to the performance, each girl was responsible for learning the entire routine and perfecting it.  The routine consisted of sharp pom work and peppy dances/cheers.  It also included some stunt elements for the cheer squads and a short dance section for the dance squads. During halftime, the Jacksonville J’ettes and cheerleaders could be spotted from the 50- and 45-yard lines leading the performance from the center of the football field!

The girls not only got to perform at halftime but also experienced the football game from the stands before halftime.  After the performance they also had the opportunity to stay and watch the rest of the Illini game.

This occasion provides for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.  The girls were able to receive critiques and pointers from the U of I cheerleaders and head coach that could be used later on in their seasons. They also were able to meet and interact with other high schoolers who share a common interest in dance/cheer.
