JHS presents School of Rock

Kayley Miner, Staff Writer

Jacksonville High School will put on a production of School of Rock. The dates to go see the show are March 11-13. On March 11 and 12, the show is at 7:00; while on Sunday, it is at 2:00.  Tickets can be purchased at the door for $7.00. This year Jacksonville High School has decided to include JMS and let the middle schoolers be in the show as well. School of Rock is about a guy named Dewey who gets kicked out of his band, so he impersonates a substitute teacher at a private school and shows rock to the kids. They become a band and play in the Battle of the Bands. The music is written by Andrew Lloyd Webber with lyrics by Glenn Slater, and the book is by Julian Fellowes. The musical is based on the comedy School of Rock starring Jack Black.

Gabe Karr, a senior, is playing Dewey. This is his fourth year doing the musical, but his eighth production as a Crimson. His favorite memories are all the little moments during rehearsal. He loves seeing people get more into their character as the practices continue.

Quentin Bryson-Adams is a freshman here and plays Mrs. Sheinkopf. This is her second production at JHS. She loves being backstage with her friends and singing and dancing to the amazing music.

Ellieanna Walden is a junior this year. She plays Summer Hathaway, one of the students from Horace Green who is a high-achiever. Ellie says that her favorite memory is watching Quentin, Jalen, and Kayley sing “I’m Too Hot For You.

Jalen Morgan, a sophomore, plays Ned Schneebly, Dewey’s loveable but pushover best friend. He loves when he is backstage singing and watching his friends perform “Stick it to the Man.”

School of Rock is a rock musical, but it also includes nods to classical music. Mozart’s “Queen of the Night” shows up in the musical. The production has rock music but with classic musical theater mixed in. This show is spectacular, and you won’t want to miss it!
