Joi Flick, staff writer

Joi Flick is the most prepared unprepared girl to walk the Jacksonville High School halls. Although it is her sophomore year already, she still has the fantasy that her high school years will turn out like an 80’s rom-com. “Ferris Bueller's Day Off” may have set some unrealistic standards for her. While her dream is to live life like a Gilmore Girl, the closest she will get is having a never-ending book collection and coffee addiction. Much like Rory Gilmore, Joi has always had great interest in writing and researching. Journalism is the perfect stepping stone for everything she wishes to achieve for herself. She wants her voice to be heard and taken into consideration on important topics. Being a sprinter on the track and field team takes up most of her spring and keeps her occupied until summer break comes around. Hot weather isn’t her first choice but getting to sleep in and having more time to spend with her loved ones makes up for the constant sweating. Being around those she loves is where she is most herself. In almost every group she has found herself included in, she has been “the mom” of the group and has learned to take pride in this role. The previous fact has had a great impact on what she wants to do with the rest of her life. As much as she would like to succeed in being a full-time feminist and movie reviewer, she wants to help everyone she possibly can. After her senior year at JHS, she hopes to attend her dream school at the University of Alabama. There she wants to work towards earning her bachelor's degree in psychology to have a career as a therapist. Since the 2023-24 school year is Joi’s first year with the Crimson J, she hopes to make those around her proud and leave behind a legacy of a strong, powerful woman.
