Welcome to fourth quarter-the end of the school year is in sight. As the weather gets warmer and vacations are planned, it’s easy to slack off at school. But it’s not right to give up and jeopardize months of hard work and long days. In fourth quarter, students should work HARDER in school instead of slacking off BECAUSE it’s the end of the year. When a runners are on the last mile of a marathon they don’t stop running and go home, they push themselves to sprint to the finish line. Students at JHS should do the same thing. When there are less than nine weeks of school left, students should push themselves to earn a better grade and finish the year on a high note, especially seniors. As a senior myself, I’m finding it hard to care about homework and quizzes, but I want to end my high school career better than I started so I’m going to work very hard to push myself to get the grades I want and ace my finals in May.
Still not convinced? Fourth quarter is full of fun things to look forward to. If you think summer is a distant mirage, then look forward to the nearest exciting thing until it is summer. For example, I’m excited for OCL on March 27. After that is Spring Break, midterm, a long weekend, the student appreciation picnic, prom, then the final hurdle, finals, and summer. I’m sure that there are even more holidays, birthdays, and sporting events sprinkled in there too.
One final thought, especially for seniors: high school should be an experience to be enjoyed. Four years go by much faster than expected and the memories you make during that time are priceless. High school is the last stop before a world of long work days, mortgages, taxes, and bills. Enjoy a time where all you have to worry about is a math quiz and a history project. When you think about it, a couple months left of high school is nothing compared to the rest of your life. And those couple months could affect your life after graduation. So give it all you got and power through to the finish line; you’ll be happy you did.
