The worldwide phenomenon of The Hunger Games books written by Suzanne Collins and the movies are rapidly becoming popular among all. Recently, the newest movie of the bunch, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, arrived in theaters on November 21 and made approximately $123 million on its opening weekend. The film is rated PG-13 and is two hours and five minutes long. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 is directed by Francis Lawrence from a screenplay written by Danny Strong and Peter Craig. The movie was then produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik.
This movie begins in what the viewers will soon learn is District 13 after the cliffhanger of Catching Fire when the audience just saw Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) being pulled into an aircraft after she literally broke the arena that the games had been held in. Under the watchful eyes and leadership of President Coin and her trusted advisors, Katniss is presented as “the mockingjay” to help aid the revolution against the capital. Although Katniss is portrayed as the mockingjay for the revolution, she is still actively trying to save Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) and the other tributes that were taken, whom she finds out are alive and are being held in the capital. With the help of President Coin and other dependable consultants, Katniss inspires all of the districts to take the idea of the revolution to another level that could end in victory or defeat.
Although this movie may seem long and drawn out to some, those who have read the book will understand why this happens. The movie is split into two parts because it follows the book with just as much detail as the other movies. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone who has or hasn’t read the books because it is an extremely intriguing movie to watch.
