The Walking Dead murders our hearts

On Sunday, October 23, The Walking Dead released the season 7 opening episode.  This episode was much anticipated because viewers were left with a cliff hanger on the final episode of season 6. The final episode of season 6 consisted of the group (Rick, Maggie, Abraham, Eugene, Sasha, and a few other side characters) taking Maggie to a doctor to help her with her pregnancy since she was severely sick. However, as they are constantly trying to get there, they are blocked by multiple groups from Negan’s “pack.” The group decides to send a few people in the RV they were driving as an illusion and others walking in the woods with Maggie. The group in the woods gets surrounded by Negan’s men. They are all lined up in a half circle, where they are met with the rest of their group who was undoubtedly captured by Negan’s men. Then we meet the man Negan himself. He was alluded to throughout season 6 and he is thought to be an awful guy. He is known to have a wooden baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire which he calls Lucille.

Negan walks out of the RV and starts talking to the group. None of them are allowed to talk or speak or there will be consequences. Negan talks about how upset he is that Rick and his group ambushed and murdered his men in cold blood even though it was not all in cold blood. They had murdered a man from Rick’s new group they had met. Besides that, Negan goes on to say how he wants revenge. To get his revenge, one of Rick’s men had to pay the price. Negan could not “simply decide” who to kill so he plays eenie meenie miny mo to pick his victim. At the end of the season 6 finale, viewers are given a first-person point of view of who is being killed by Lucille and Negan, and then the episode ends. Now, that is all the way back in February. Jump to October.

The long-awaited season opener for season 7 is upon us. Everybody has placed their “bets” on who has been killed. Mainly everyone has either believed it is Glenn, who in the comic books was supposed to die a long time ago, or Abraham, who has only been in the series since season 4. Low and behold, Negan and his bat Lucille brutally crushed in Abraham’s skull and killed him. Everyone in Rick’s group is either crying or sitting there in horror at what just happened. Negan begins taunting Rosita, Abraham’s lover, and Daryl jumps in and punches Negan. Oh no, Daryl is going to die now. Nope! Daryl does not die, but he is thrown into the van where he is taken to Negan’s base camp. Negan says that he let them get away with one “incident.” He then hits Glenn atop of the head with Lucille. We are shown Glenn with a dented in skull, blood dripping down his face, and his eye popping out of his skull. He struggles to say, “I will find you,” to Maggie his wife. After that, he is gone because Negan “finishes him off.”

Glenn was a well-liked character and  Abraham was not liked as much because he was quite rude. However, many people’s hearts were ripped out about Glenn being taken from them.
