The upcoming action/adventure film Brick Mansions, set to release at the end of this month, has had my attention lately with its trailers airing on TV repeatedly. I don’t usually get hyped up for action flicks but if this particular one lives up to the expectations these trailers have set, I may just have to fork over the cash and give it a chance.
Directed by Camille Delamarre and starring the late Paul Walker (Fast and Furious), Brick Mansions takes a unique spin on the popular utopian setting.
In a dystopian Detroit, abandoned brick mansions left from better times now house only the most dangerous criminals. Unable to control the crime, the police constructed a colossal containment wall around this area to protect the rest of the city. For undercover cop Damien Collier (Paul Walker), every day is a battle against corruption. For Lino (David Belle), every day is a fight to live an honest life. Their paths never should have crossed, but when drug kingpin, Tremaine (RZA) kidnaps Lino’s girlfriend, Damien reluctantly accepts the help of the fearless ex-convict, and together they must stop a sinister plot to devastate the entire city. With stylized action featuring thrilling Parkour stunts (David Belle is the co-founder of this physical training discipline), Brick Mansions puts an entertaining twist on the action genre.
As the last completed film by Walker, this movie will most likely be a smash in the box office for his many fans, not only that, but all of the stunts Walker does in this movie are done by himself and not a stunt double. I would shell out the cash just to see the kick-butt Parkour stunts that are largely featured in this film because rarely is this acrobatic spectacle of awesome seen in the mainstream.
I’ll have to place this movie on my list of must-sees. It sounds like it will be well worth it despite my usually lacking interest in the action genre. I’m looking forward to seeing it for sure.
