On April 4, Marvel’s first superhero, Captain America, will return to the big screen in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. After two years of absence following Marvel’s The Avengers, the hero will return with his biggest, most unexpected rival yet. Needless to say, excitement fills comic fans and hero lovers alike as the anticipated film approaches. The action-filled adventure flick is slated to be one of the year’s most popular movies.
Marvel Studios began production of the movie as early as April 2011 with the screenplay and script. By June 2012, the duo of brothers Joe and Anthony Russo were chosen to direct the long-awaited movie, and by March 2013, filming began. With on-location scenes in Washington, D.C., the crew and cast attempted to put the classic hero in a modern-day setting.
This modern-day setting is an integral role in the story and development of the main character, Steve Rogers, as a whole. His story begins where The Avengers left off for Steve Rogers (Chris Evans). He tries to settle into his life as a 21st-century dweller and is having a difficult time doing so. When a member of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division) comes under personal attack, Rogers is forced to join forces with the Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) in order to save him. The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), the unforeseen, deadly foe, will try at all costs to stop the Captain. With the odds so much against his favor, audiences will hold their breath to see if Captain America will prevail.
The film’s opening weekend is predicted to be successful with the fan base that the Marvel Comic movies has garnered over the years. With considerable anticipation, people eagerly await to see if Marvel’s first hero can triumph over an unprecedented foe.
