Every year the students of Jacksonville High School look forward to the annual Homecoming Spirit Week. Each day of Spirit Week consists of a different way to dress in order to celebrate the upcoming Homecoming.
This year the first day of Spirit Week was called “’Merica Monday.” On this day, the students dressed in the colors red, white, and blue to show their “’Merican pride.” The second day of Spirit Week was named “Twin Day Tuesday.” Students chose a friend to match with for the school day. Wednesday was “Class Color Day.” Each class of JHS was assigned a color to wear for this day of Spirit Week. These colors also played roles for the different powder puff and ironman volleyball teams. (Freshmen wore green, sophomores wore purple, juniors wore blue, and seniors wore black). These tournaments also took place on “Class Color Day.” Powder puff football was located on the JHS track while ironman volleyball was held in the central gym. The following day of JHS Homecoming Spirit Week was “Untrendy Thursday.” On this day, the students went all out creating fun and unfashionable trends to wear to school. Later that night, the Homecoming Pep Rally was held in the west gym. The students got fired up for Homecoming while competing in various events for the pep rally. Some of these events included the pie eating contest, the boys cartwheel contest, pyramid building, tug-a-war, and many more. The crowning of the 2014 JHS Homecoming king and queen, Gabe Megginson and Lexi Middleton, was also announced at the Pep Rally. The pep rally also showcased several special acts such as the JHS Drumline, J’Crew, and the senior football boys’ cheerleading routine.
Spirit Week came to an end on “Crimson Pride Day.” On Friday, students wore Crimson spirit wear to show off their “Crimson pride.” This day consisted of many events. After an early school dismissal, the JHS Homecoming Parade began to line up. Following the Homecoming parade was the J’ette Cow Plop and later the Homecoming football game vs. Decatur Eisenhower. The Crimsons took home the big win that night leaving everyone in a fantastic mood for the Homecoming dance the next day at the MacMurray Dining Hall.
