This year the very popular fundraiser event, Donkey Basketball, was once again held on March 13. Stephanie Davidsmeyer was the event organizer. The point of the fundraiser was to raise money for Jacksonville School District’s 117 Positive Behavior Intervention Support Program (PBIS).
This was the second year that Donkey Basketball was held at the JHS Bowl. Donkey Basketball was a fun way to get students, teachers, and local celebrities involved and to raise money.
There were four teams that completed the show. One team of Turner Junior High teachers, a team of high school students, a team of JHS teachers, and a team of local celebrities. Each person had to ride a donkey and play basketball at the same time.
They also had donkey rides available at half-time for children for $1. Admission was $6 in advance and $8 at the door. The fundraiser was a success and a good time for all who attended.
Senior JHS student Jacob Farrell who was also a participant on the high school team said, “It was a fun and new experience.”
Donkey basketball is certainly a sight to see and something fun to try. Senior JHS student Abby Bridges, who was a pooper scooper, said, “It was really funny because some people kept falling off their donkeys, and some donkeys would not cooperate at all.”
The money raised by this fundraiser is planned to be used to improve and maintain the PBIS program here in District 117. PBIS is a way to acknowledge students for the good things they do and to encourage them make more appropriate choices in their everyday life and also after their schooling here in the district.
