Thomas Estabrook, junior, and Jeremiah Roberts, sophomore, both competed at the Illinois State Math Competition on May 5 at the University of Illinois in Champaign. Both placed in the top 3 in their category at regional competition, which was in February at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville.
Estabrook competed in Algebra II, and Roberts in Geometry. Roberts reached 10th place in Geometry at state, the highest anyone from JHS has ever gotten.
Mrs. Beard, the math team advisor, mentioned that JHS was the only central Illinois team to go the state; the rest were from Chicago and the surrounding suburbs. So far, JHS has sent at least one student to the state level every year since the team formed.
