The NCAA Tournament has been given the name March Madness by many and certainly lived up to the name in this matchup between Northern Iowa and Texas A&M.  UNI, after upsetting Texas in the first round, looked bound to knock off yet another team from the Lone Star state in the Aggies Texas A&M.  That was until they turned the ball, and the game over, down the stretch.  UNI got off to a strong start as they stretched their lead to ten points heading into halftime.  They quickly pushed their lead to fifteen points early in the second half.  Texas A&M would make numerous runs to cut into the Panthers’ lead but still found themselves trailing by twelve points with a mere forty-four seconds remaining in the game.  It’s over at this point, right? Wrong. Northern Iowa would turn the ball over four times and allow the Aggies to embark on a 14-2 run in forty-four seconds to tie the game and send it to overtime.

The first overtime was a back-and-forth affair as both teams led by as many as three points.  Free throws by Jeremy Morgan put UNI up by two with twenty seconds to go.  Texas A&M’s Alex Caruso nailed a mid-range jumper to tie the game at eighty-three and essentially send the game into yet another overtime.  The Panthers couldn’t even muster a basket in the second overtime as they were held to only five points all on free throws by Morgan.  A&M would ice the game with made attempts from the foul line of their own en route to a 92-88 come from behind victory.

Jeremy Morgan dropped in a game high 36 points for UNI as Klint Carlson and Paul Jesperson added 17 and 11 for the Panthers.  Alex Caruso and Danuel House carried the Aggies with 25 and 22 points respectively.  Jalen Jones came alive late and added 16 points of his own.

The Aggies now move on to play the Sooners of Oklahoma and their star player Buddy Hield in the Sweet Sixteen.
