Girls’ volleyball takes a loss against the Blue Devils

On Wednesday, September 30 the girls’ volleyball team played Quincy Notre Dame and lost in two matches.  The junior varsity lost in three matches.  As of now, the varsity Lady Crimsons are 7-7 while the Blue Devils are 7-2.  The seniors this year for the Lady Crimsons are Gretchen Biessman, Blasia Harris, Emma Fenner, and Korie Petefish.  Both JV and varsity played hard but not hard enough to beat the Quincy Notre Dame Blue Devils.

The scores were close but not close enough for the Lady Crimsons to take home the win.  The first game was not very close, but the Crimsons managed to keep up and maintain a good volley.  In the second game, Quincy managed to easily gain the lead knowing Jacksonville’s weaknesses.  The Quincy Blue Devils caught the lead when they found the holes that Jacksonville struggled to cover, and they overtook JHS with assists and kills.  Libero with a season total of 96 digs, Emma Fenner kept the team alive against the Blue Devils’ unpredictable attacks, but it wasn’t enough to save the team’s game.  The JHS hitters missed either in the net or hit the ball out of bounds giving the Blue Devils the advantage with their serves.  Blasia Harris has a season total of 72 assists and was able to score a couple against the Blue Devils.  Though we could find some of their holes, the Blue Devils were able to score more against JHS especially when the Crimsons were covering a block.  QND knew where Crimson players were and where they were not, giving them a head start for the second match.

The Lady Crimsons’ next game is October 6th against Rochester High School.  Junior varsity starts off at 6:00 p.m. at Rochester High School.
