The St. Louis Rams and coach Jeff Fisher have proven this season that the Rams are very close to being a playoff contender. The Rams have beaten quality teams this season with wins over the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks. The Rams have a great core of players on the defensive side of the ball starting with all-pro defensive end Robert Quinn. The Rams have Quinn locked up long term and Quinn has proven to be one of the best pass rushers in the league. Also on the defensive line, the Rams have Chris Long, Michael Brockers, and rookie defensive tackle Aaron Donald who has “star” written all over him. The Rams boast a duo of tackling machine linebackers in James Laurinitis and Alec Ogletree. The secondary consists of corners Trumaine Johnson, Janoris Jenkins, and E.J. Gaines, and Lamarcus Joyner. The safeties include T.J. McDonald, Rodney McCleod, and Mark Barron. The secondary is filled with young, talented players who all have the ability to be very good. On the offensive side of the ball, the Rams have an abundance of explosive players including rookie running back Tre Mason, second-year receivers Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey. Also the Rams have solid wide outs in Brian Quick and Kenny Britt. What the Rams really need to become a serious contender is a quarterback. The Rams need a consistent performer that allows the rest of the Rams stacked roster to win games, which they can. The Rams general manager, Les Snead, and the rest of the Rams organization need to make a decision if Sam Bradford is the long-term option at quarterback. If not, they need to find a player in the draft who can lead the team to the playoffs. The window for St. Louis being a serious Super Bowl contender is closing fast, and without a quarterback, it will be virtually impossible.
