Monday, November 3 marked the start of a new tradition, the senior boys’ ironman team versus the senior volleyball players. Starting at 7:30 pm, the fight began. Playing three games to twenty-five, the winner had the power to choose the other team’s wardrobe for a day. That day has not yet been decided.
The first game consisted of a fast headstart for the girls. Hard serves and hits by the girls were impossible for the boys to pass. Scrappy defense by the girls showed that the boys’ unorthodox way of playing was not going to throw off the game. The girls won the first game 25-15.
The second game was more back and forth than the first, but the girls were not taking it easy, so the boys still struggled. Big kills by Abby Tomhave gave the boys a reason to hit the floor to dive, but they were not fast enough. The girls took the second game 25-20.
Both teams decided to play a third game with an all-or-nothing stake on it: whoever lost the game had to wear whatever the other team says on a specific day that has not yet been decided. This made both teams play even harder, but the girls had too much skill to let the boys beat them. A run of four service aces by Abby Tomhave and Sydney Lovekamp got the crowd fired up. The girls had enough momentum to keep the game in their favor and won 25-19.
