October 21, 2014, marked a special night in the hearts of the Jacksonville volleyball community…senior night. Multiple posters hung on the walls in addition to very interesting banners made for each individual senior as a keepsake. Fans piled into the bleachers to watch the night’s events unfold, including a recognition of this year’s senior volleyball players: Abby Tomhave (captain), Cheyanne Jockisch (captain), Rachel Shive (captain), Jessica Schroeder, Megan Hance, and Sydney Lovekamp.
The first game of the match started out slowly for the Lady Crimsons with poor service to start out the game. Chatham took a quick lead and held on to take the first game of the match 15-25.
The second game was a different story. The Crimsons came out with strong service, challenging the Chatham back row. Good defense gave our setters opportunities to get the ball to our hitters who could then find holes in the Titan defense. The roles reversed for this game, and the Crimsons held on to a lead at 20-13. Letting no ball hit the floor, they held on to this and won the game 25-17.
Now the pressure was on. Going from a score of 6-6 to a score of 11-11, the Lady Titans and our Lady Crimsons went back and forth, taking and losing the lead. When Chatham got a lead at 18-21, it was becoming suspenseful to see if the Crimsons could come back and take the set, but unfortunately it was too late and Chatham took another victory 21-25.
Though the Lady Crimsons have no regular season games left, regionals will be held here at Jacksonville High School next week. The Crimson face-off with Sacred Heart Griffin on Tuesday night, October 27 to advance to the regional championship game which will be held on Thursday, October 30.
