High school football is technically a fall sport. What people don’t understand is that preparations and practices start way before fall and even way before school starts. The first week of June is when everything takes off for the team here at JHS.
Our off-season schedule is filled with many practices. To go along with our practices are 7 on 7s. A 7 on 7 consists of just skilled position players. These focus on our passing game and our ability to defend the pass. Some of the bigger 7 on 7s we will be attending are ones at Kansas State, Western Illinois, Saint Pats, Lake Forest, and Civic Memorial. Along with these big ones, we hold our own and throw against some of the schools in our area. These schools include Jerseyville, Auburn and Maroa-Forsyth.
These practices and 7 on 7s play a key role in our season success because if we can master our skills and technique during the summer, then practices during the season can be fully spent on getting ready for our opponents. Along with getting better, the summer proves vital for team bonding.
Believe it or not, football season is here.
