This year the JHS men’s swim Team has had an amazing season. The boys have taken home two victories against conference rivals Chatham Glenwood. “My hope is that the team can place in the top 3 at the conference meet coming up next week,” Coach Black said, “I think we can do it. Chatham, SHG, and SHS are all tough competition but, we’ve beat Chatham twice already. I believe a third time is in our near future.”
The team will be working hard up until the last minute in the pool. It’s been a great season with strong placement all across the board at several major invites as well as several dual meet victories. Many members of the team have watched themselves and their teammates grow stronger over the course of the season. With better times and tougher practices the team has grown a lot over a short time. “I’m really impressed with the amount of work the team has put in this year. We’ve had a lot of meets canceled because of weather but that hasn’t stopped the guys from improving their times,” said Black. The whole team has their eyes set on the top 3 of the conference which would be the highest placement for a JHS team since Black began coaching.
No matter how the team performs, one thing is for sure. With a roster composed of over half a team of seniors, things won’t be the same after this year. “I have three years of high school swimming ahead of me, and I just don’t know how it will be the same when we lose such a great group of guys,” freshman swimmer Alex Yow said, “I feel like I’ll be losing a whole group of big brothers. They’ve really made this whole experience one of a kind for me.”
