With the ink barely dried on the 2013-2014 football season, the future of the season lies solely in the hands of the football team. The Crimsons can compete with anybody in the state of Illinois when they work together. The Crimsons guaranteed their playoff berth with a win against 4A powerhouse Breese Mater Dei, 27-14.
It’s the first time since 2008 that the Crimsons have gotten that sixth win and guaranteed a playoff spot. The seniors are determined to be remembered. ‘’We just have to go into the games knowing we’re going to win,’’ said Tyler Defrates. I personally think that if the team clicks on every cylinder and responds when adversity peaks, then the only people that can beat us is ourselves. Not only do the senior football players contribute from the experience of going to the playoffs, but it’s also building a tradition so that future generations of Crimson football players will be used to winning.
All of the teams from the freshman to the seniors have a great amount of faith in this team. They believe that if we work together as a team then anything is possible. Of course, the goal of the entire team is a state title, which is easily within our reach if everything falls into place.
Although nobody wants the season to end, that is an unavoidable truth. This group of seniors has been playing together since sixth grade. They’ve played and won as many times as they can. They are fully ready to be the team that did it instead of the team that could’ve done it. Everybody has very high expectations and will not be satisfied until the ultimate goal is reached–a state title. They have the athletic ability, strength, size, and speed. But do they have the heart?
