The Crimsons faced off with rival SHG here in Jacksonville on Friday night. With last year’s second round playoff loss to Griffin still in the heads of the players, Jacksonville was without senior both way starter Tyler Defrates.
From the beginning of the game, the Cyclones rolled. A screen pass from Gabe Green to Nate Lois got the Cyclones on the board. Then sophomore Sam Sergent scored a rushing touchdown to increase SHG’s lead. A touchdown by Griffin’s Malik Turner gave SHG a three score lead. Jacksonville answered with a scoring drive of their own. Zac Lonergan caught three passes on the drive that ended with a touchdown from JHS quarterback Bryce Schnitker.
It was all Sacred Heart from that point on. Turnovers and missed tackles lead to a 65 to 14 defeat for the Crimsons.
Now there must be tunnel vision for the Crimsons. They face the Springfield High Senators this Friday for their Homecoming game. This game plays an important part for the Jacksonville’s postseason hopes. A win in this game would bring the Crimson’s record to four wins and two losses. They would be one win away from qualifying for the playoffs.
Jacksonville will be without starting running back Justin Herron on Friday. Senior Floyd Lomelino will likely get the most carries against the Senators of Springfield High.
Other than the game being Homecoming, JHS is honoring the 2003 football team. They were the first team to make the playoffs in the history of Jacksonville football. With all the factors thrown into this Friday’s game, you can say it is a must win for the Crimsons.
