The Jacksonville Crimsons football team although faced with adversity at times has managed through three games to come out 3-1. From players not being able to play for various reasons to injuries, we have enough depth and talent to not miss a beat. Blake Hance, for example, broke his hand during practice, and Tavion Brown is a very strong emotional leader who missed week two of the season for some off-field problems.
The team this year is different from other teams; we are brothers. As Coach Mark Grounds would say, “There is a lack of superstarism”; meaning we all play for each other because we feel if we are all leaders that we will achieve more than if there were one or a few players who thought they would stand above the team. We all feel that if we move together as a team and advance as one, help each other during times when the morale is low that we will achieve more than the person across the ball from us.
The Central State 8 offers some of the toughest competition in class 5A, but we all still feel like if we stay united and play each play as if it was our last. We play for the guy standing next to us no matter who it is, what age they are, or the color of their skin. We all know that at the end of the day, it’s the brotherhood and the efforts of the team, not the efforts of an individual or individuals but all of us as a whole.
In the past weeks we have generally rolled over the competition with the exception of Chatham Glenwood who managed to beat us 21-7. This upcoming Friday, September 27, 2013 the Crimsons will take on Sacred Heart-Griffin at home. The game starts at 7 p.m.
