The JHS track senior night is always filled with emotions as the seniors experience their very last home meet as part of the team. The very last home meet of the season was on April 30 here at the JHS track.
JHS competed against Routt, Winchester, and North Green. JHS won overall and several members of the team won their own division.
Members Brennan Haggerty, Adam Enz, Kolby Briggs, and Ethan Toney placed first in the 4 by 8. Senior Reggie Bratton placed first in the 100 meter dash, senior James Jackson got first in the 200 meter dash, senior Kolby Briggs got first in the 400, senior Aaron Vasquez placed first in the triple jump, and lastly, senior Adam Enz got first in the mile.
One highlight from this track meet was when Vasquez was up for his third try for the long jump and decided to do something out of the ordinary for his very last home meet. Vasquez did a back flip right before his run, ran to the pit and then did a front flip. Unfortunately, the refs disqualified him for his stunt and also didn’t count his first two jumps either.
The JHS track team has eight seniors this year, and for them this meet was very special. Senior Brennan Haggerty said, “It was very bitter sweet because it was our first home meet and also our last.”
According to Haggerty their season has been “okay” so far. The team has had two meets since their senior night. These two meets were at Chatham and Sacred Heart Griffin High School. At Chatham the team placed fourth overall out of nine teams.
Both of these meets were CS8 meets, which means everyone in their conference competed.
One highlight from those meets was when Reggie Bratton, Devante Clark, Juan Jackson, and Aaron Vasquez got first in the 4 by 1.
After these two meets, JHS will go on to compete in sectionals at Lanphier High School against all conference teams on May 17. Whoever places high enough will go on to state.
Haggerty said, “We hope to go to state in the 4 by 1, 4 by 2, 100 meter, 200 meter, and high jump.” State will be held soon after their sectionals meet.
