The JHS boys’ baseball team started their season off the right way with a 19-2 win over Macomb on Tuesday, March 12. It was a cold and snowy day out at Lenz Field but the team pulled together with junior Dustin Woodcock on the mound and junior Floyd Lomelino behind the plate. Woodcock thought the team excelled in hitting. “I think we did very well, but we need to work on infield fly balls,” he said.
They continued the season against Rochester Tuesday night with a 7-2 win in extra innings. The team was tied 2-2 in the 7th inning but the Crimsons loaded the bases in the 8th inning with no one out and Lomelino hit a double that sent two runs in. Woodcock pitched until the 4th inning and then junior Tyler Ring came in to finish the game. Ring struck out six batters and allowed only four hits.
The Crimsons also played Rochester again Thursday and continued their winning streak with a 4-3 victory. Andy Jackson was the pitcher in this game and struck out batters in five of the six innings. Lomelino, Woodcock, and Kody Wood all went 2-for-3 at the plate.
The boys play again this weekend at Lenz Field.
