The JHS girls track team season has just started with their first meet at Illinois College here in Jacksonville. They competed against about 15 other teams and did a decent job. They also had a track meet at Champaign on the 16 of March.
One highlight from the IC meet was the girls 4 by 2 got a 2:03, and last year they had a time of 2:10.
Sophomore member, Bianca Lopez, said, “Our season’s been really good and we practice hard so it pays off when we go to our meets.”
Lopez also said, “The IC meet was kind of hard, but I think overall we succeeded in where we wanted to be.” Lopez is a first-year track member. She is one of eight girls on the team.
The girls track team is coached by Pete Lira, a physical education teacher here at JHS. The girls are in for a busy season that will go on until May, and as they prepare for this busy season, they are keeping their spirits high with the hopes of going on to state. Good luck on the rest of your season, girls!
