The wrestling season for this year is coming to a close fast, and last minute impressions are here to be made. Here at JHS we have regionals winners who made it to the sectionals! Nick Hamilton, Logan Carter, Grant Carmody, Zach Stout, Ty Karsgaard, and Josh Smith made it to the next round. Here’s who they are and what they had to say:
Carter is a senior; he has been wrestling for seven years, and he is full of confidence in his team. He wants to go to Mizzou for college and plans on sticking with wrestling as a fun sport to do. He is also proud of everyone on the team, and they made the four years in high school worth it.
Carter says, “It’s a good feeling to be this far into the season, not only because it’s my last year, but because it has a bittersweet feeling knowing that we got this far. I could not have got here without them.”
Nick Hamilton is a senior. He has been wrestling for six years, and he is relieved that all of his hard work has paid off. He has made it so far this season, and he couldn’t be any more ecstatic about the turn out. Nick is planning on going to the University of Missouri. He doesn’t plan on doing varsity wrestling in college, but he would like to join Mizzou’s club team.
Hamilton says, “The season had its ups and downs, but my team is great. I love my team and my coaches as well. They have been very supportive, and I wouldn’t be this far without my coaches or team.”
Josh Smith is a junior; this will be his eleventh year of wrestling. His goals for this year in wrestling are to place state and to return to state next year. He plans on going into the Army after high school and then off to Western Illinois University. He has not decided if he will wrestle in college yet, but he is looking forward to what’s next.
Smith says, “I think we had a great season this year with two state qualifiers and one alternate. Also our coaches were great, and I’d like to thank them for all their hard work and for them pushing us to get this far.”
Grant Carmody is a sophomore. He has been wrestling since fifth grade, and he said that it’s a great feeling to get where he is now. His goals this season are to place at state with his team. Grant doesn’t know where he wants to go to college, but he knows that he will be a wrestler when he gets there.
Carmody says, “I really liked my team this year because they were all very good wrestlers and great to practice with. My seniors on the team taught me new things and helped me out every day. My coaches helped me a lot in the off-season during open mats.”
Good luck, wrestlers, and I hope you all succeed with your goals and make it to the next level!
