While the softball team hasn’t even had its first official practice yet, girls have been participating in open gyms for a few weeks now. Under the watch of new coaches Jason Garrett and Adrienne Hawkins, the girls have started to prepare for the season with hitting and fielding drills although dealing with limited space. They have also been working a lot on getting back in shape, focusing on strengthening the parts of the body which will help with quickness and hitting.
“Open gyms are going good, but you never know until you hit the field,” said Adrienne Hawkins when asked how what she thinks the team needs to work on and how she feels about the upcoming season. She also thinks a strength the team has is how close everyone is.
Expect to see familiar faces on the field as most of the girls will be returning from last season, but don’t count out some new faces as there is a lot of talent coming from the girls who are trying out.
Senior Ashleigh Plowman said she has enjoyed getting to know the new coaches and working out during these open gyms.
The first game is March 19 with weeks full of games from then until the end of the season. The first home game is March 20 against Rochester; so make sure to come out and support your Lady Crimsons!
