Just last weekend, the JHS cheerleaders went to their state competition. They competed at the Springfield Prairie Capital Center against 28 teams in the medium varsity division. The squad placed 12th overall.
Senior team captain, Ashley Lind, said, “It went really well, but we had to revamp the whole routine because one of our flyers got sick the night before the competition.”
A senior team member ended up getting mono the night before and could not compete the next day. The squad had to change spots and find a fill in for the missing flyer. Freshman team member Skylar Peck filled in for her fellow team member doing a great job. Lind said, “We hit everything. I was really proud of my team.”
This was the team’s last competition of their 2012-2013 season. The girls are still practicing one day a week to keep up with sidelines for basketball games.
This Friday, February 15th, is the very last home game for the JHS basketball team, cheerleaders, and J’ettes. At this game there will be a recognition ceremony for all of the seniors leaving after this year.
Lind said, “I’m sad. I know that I’ve only been cheering for two years now, but it’s still really sad to know that this will be my last home game.” There will be more away games after this Friday until regionals in a few weeks.
Congratulations on your 12th place at state, JHS Cheerleaders!
