Despite their 48-40 victory, going up against the Springfield High Senators proved to be harder than it should have been for the Jacksonville boys. A game against the Senators, who are 2-19, should have been an easy win for the Crimsons, who are now 15-7. At halftime, the game was 20-12, with JHS leading. By the end of the fourth quarter, the Senators had the lead at 38-36 but not for too long. After an easy basket at the buzzer by junior Blake Hance, the score was tied at 38-38 and the game was sent into overtime. The Crimsons seemed to have gotten their momentum back during the overtime as they outscored the Senators 10-2.
“The energy could be felt all throughout the crowd,” said senior Charlene Hutchcraft about Hance’s game tying shot.
Senior Josh Peak scored the team high 12 points, followed closely by senior Brendan Barlow with 11. The Crimsons had 21 rebounds. Senior Dalton Keene led the team with five, and senior Andrew Jackson added four rebounds.
The Jacksonville boys will go to Lanphier (12-9) Friday, February 1, and host Springfield Southeast at the Bowl on Saturday, February 2.
