On Monday, the Chatham Glenwood County Market Classic started with a win for the JHS boys.
During the first game, JHS went up against Highland and came home with a 57-33 victory. At halftime, JHS led 28-13 and ended up outscoring Highland in every quarter. Jacksonville’s record improved to 11-6 and Highland’s dropped to 11-8. Senior Josh Peak led the team with 18 points. Seniors Dalton Keene and Diontue Armstrong both had nine rebounds each.
The game on Wednesday was a little more intense. Jacksonville faced off against home team Chatham Glenwood and pulled off their second win in the tournament. In a close 46-43 win over the Titans, Jacksonville’s record improved to 12-6 while Chatham’s record fell to 12-7. Senior Payton Dugan scored 15 points followed by Josh Peak with 13. JHS had six 3 pointers, half of which came from Dugan.
On Friday night, JHS crushed Rochester in a 57-27 win for the third game of the classic. At halftime, it was looking very good for the Crimsons as they led 30-11. Josh Peak scored his 1,000th JHS career point during the game. He scored 14 points throughout the night along with junior Blake Hance. The Crimsons had 38 rebounds, with senior Brendan Barlow having eight of them. Jacksonville also had five 3 pointers, three belonging to sophomore Nick Kaufmann. JHS improved to 13-6, and Rochester fell to 3-13.
On Saturday, Jacksonville played against Taylorville and got their fourth tournament win. The Crimsons beat the Tornadoes 52-37. JHS’s record improved to 14-6 and Taylorville’s fell to 12-8. Josh Peak scored the game-high 18 points and Diontue Armstrong added another ten. Armstrong also had nine of the team’s 28 rebounds.
Saturday night the Jacksonville Crimsons played in the championship game against the Lincoln Railers. Although they may have put up a good fight, it wasn’t enough to stop Lincoln, who beat the Crimsons 55-36.
Senior Megan Dewitt said, “I think Lincoln had more energy than we did.”
Lincoln improved to 19-3 and Jacksonville fell to 14-7. Dalton Keene led JHS with ten points, followed by Diontue Armstrong with seven. Jacksonville made four 3 pointers but had only nine rebounds. Josh Peak and Blake Hance were both named to the all-tournament team.
On Saturday, January 26, JHS will play against Springfield High School at 6:30 at the JHS Bowl. I hope to see a great crowd of JHS fans out supporting the team!
