The first wrestling meet of the season was Thursday, November 29. There are many freshmen on the team, but that’s the beauty of wrestling. It does not matter how old or good you are when everyone is divided up into weight classes. Wrestlers are judged on their weight, but mostly everyone gets to compete. The higher up you are in a different weight class, the harder the competition may be.
JHS has a young team, but the team can all work well together. No one is said to be better than the rest. The more new learners that come in, the more JHS is guaranteed many great seasons for a good four years.
The meet went very well according to some of the teammates. They won against Porta with team points. They all worked hard on the mat and shall continue to do so.
Even though there is a great team, there is always room for improvement. When asking Shelby Spradlin on what could be improved, she gave her honest opinion.
“What we could really work on as a team is our speed. Yes, we do well when we are on the mat, but our reaction time to different moves we pursue or our opponents pursue needs to be quicker in order for us to drive forward in a match.”
JHS wrestlers are seen to go very far because of the raw talent coming from the freshmen and also with the veterans on the team.
There wasn’t much time for the team to rest because the very next day after the first home meet, the team had a tournament..
A way to know that a team is committed and love this sport is just seeing the look in their eyes when they get that first pin or as soon as they step onto the mat. It takes a lot of muscle control and self-control to be able to have the level-headed mentality of a wrestler.
Our wrestling Crimsons definitely have it. This team does not come to anything short of hard work and dedication.
They were well prepared for the tournament. Even though it may be different for new wrestlers who have not experienced a high school tournament yet, they are ready to do their best.
