The 2012-2013 basketball season is about to get under way. With tryouts only four days away, the Crimsons are more than prepared for the upcoming season.
Head coach J.R. Dugan is in his seventh season with JHS. “I’m very optimistic about this season. If we can keep guys healthy this season, we have the potential to be very good.”
He is, of course, referring to Josh Peak’s almost season-ending injury last year. Peak broke his back just six games into the season last year after being undercut going for a rebound. He returned in a flurry to play the last game of the regular season—where he still managed to score 19 points—and the two post-season regional games where the team lost in the regional championship to Chatham Glenwood.
“We should be really good this season. I expect to be one of the top teams in the conference and well over .500,”said Peak, who is a senior this year and probable team captain.
Payton Dugan, also a senior and strong captain candidate agrees as well. “We should be better than last season. It’s looking really good.”
Off-season practice has been amped up from the mainly scrimmage-based structure of last year.
“The open gyms are much more intense. Instead of scrimmaging the whole time, we do drills, condition, and lift weight,” Peak commented on the new open gym regimens.
Keep an eye out for the Crimsons this season. With all the hard work they’ve put in so far and the foretold victories to come, these guys are back and ready for action.
