The JHS football team’s season is looking bright. With only three loses so far, the team hopes to continue their season into the playoffs. However, the ultimate goal for this season is to win state. Thus far, the team is ranked 10th in the state and their record is 4-3.
Recently, junior Bryce Schnitker broke his right ankle at the Sacred Heart Griffin game. Since losing him as quarterback for our varsity football team, sophomore Zac Lonergan has filled in. Lonergan’s performance at the SHG game looked very promising; however, they lost 6-21, but it was a good start for Lonergan.
“It feels pretty good. It’s a step up from JV. It’s faster paced,” said Lonergan about replacing Schnitker.
At the recent game against Springfield High, Zac Lonergan once again filled in for Schnitker. The game was a close one, and a “must win” in many people’s eyes. It was a heartbreaking loss for the Crimsons when the game ended with a score of 21-26.
Lonergan said, “We all played hard, but we fell short, I guess. It was a hard loss.”
At their recent game against Taylorville the final score was 21-7. The boys were ready to play against their competition after losing against Springfield High. The loss only made them more motivated and practice harder. “Our team played very well. We all did what we were supposed to do,” said Lonergan.
This coming Friday, October 12, is the football senior night and the last home game of the season. They will be playing against Breese Mater Dei. It will be an emotional night, but they are ready to fight hard again for the win.
