This season for the JHS girls’ tennis team has been going well. The girls are working hard at practices and are determined to win more upcoming matches.
So far this season the team’s record is 3-7.
JHS hosted one tournament here in Jacksonville on September 8th where all of the schools that compete against Jacksonville High School came to compete. Those schools include Rochester, Springfield High, Southeast, Chatham and many more.
Coach Brooks said, “Everybody has been doing a good job. The girls are improving. Last week we won 3-2, so we’re getting better.”
The same top six varsity members remain with junior Annie Deal, freshman Lucy Deal, senior Ashley Mason, senior Allison Behrends, junior Molly McGiles, and junior Taylor Heady. The senior team captains this year are Allison Behrends, Abby Bridges, Ashley Mason, and Ellen Meystedt.
Senior team captain, Ashley Mason said, “This season has been really good, and we all support each other.”
The girls’ tennis team hopes to win more of their upcoming matches. Their senior night will be on October 1st here in Jacksonville at the IC tennis courts at 4:00 p.m. Their season will officially end with sectionals on October 12-13th. After that, whoever wins their matches will go on to state. Junior, Annie Deal, was the only one from Jacksonville to go to state last year.
The girls, and Coach Brooks, keep high hopes as sectionals approach and the hope to go on to state later this month.
