With all the peppy cheering that our cheerleaders do at our basketball and football games, it was their time to shine at their state competition on February 11. They qualified for the ICCA state competition at the Meyer Tournament and placed 1st, and scored ten points above the team that placed second.
The squad’s tryouts were held very late in the season as opposed to previous years, and, as a result, it gave them a very short amount of time to prepare. But the girls persevered, working hard on their floor competition routine.
At their state competition, they placed 10th out of 38 teams and scored only 2 points below the first place winner.
JHS cheerleading coach, Christy Buhlig, said, “I am very proud to see how much this squad has grown throughout the span of only four short months. Each one of them has grown in the fundamental areas of cheerleading and grown as individuals placing the team’s needs in front of their own. I expect great things from them in the future.”
Senior captain, Abby Floreth, said, “I’m really proud of what the squad accomplished this year, and we came a long way. I couldn’t have asked for a better season.”
They cheered the JHS basketball boys on at their regional championship game against Chatham on March 2, ending their season.
