“I’ll take it in black.” There are few to zero colors that compliment white hair, plus adding that I have the skin complexion of Frosty the Snowman, equals a mostly black wardrobe. I have the occasional pop of color, the royal blues or burgundy; though looking around at my classmates in their highlighter pink t-shirts and neon athletic sneakers, I can’t help but shudder and picture what I would look like in such an unflatteringly bright color palette. It is a fact that bright colors pair well with a dazzling sun tan. Though thinking back on it, I have never had a suntan. My skin is determined to stay at ivory, resembling an over creamed latte or beet red sunburnt. Black is also the color of sophistication, a simple statement on every outfit.
A JHS student, Anna Anderson, answers the question “Is it comfy and can I sleep in it? Tie-Dye optional” as she adjusts the sleeves of her mauve tie-dye hoodie and fine-tunes the auburn hair that cascades around her shoulders. Anna seems to be missing her staple Vans sneakers quite visibly falling apart at the seams and very well-loved by frequent uses over the years. Though only she could pull off her iconic yin-yang and beaded beach necklaces that adorn her neck.
“Do I want to look like a dirtball or not?” Cheyenne Jockish tells us this is the question she poses to herself before getting dressed in the morning. Though recently she has been sporting some trendy State Farm-esque beige pants. When asked what inspired the uniformly choice of trousers she answered “Uhmm, khakis?”
On a more fashionable note, Emanuel Lopez takes a more serious turn with his personal style, describing it tersely as “a nice button up and jeans” and with an afterthought he adds quickly, “preferably Ralph Lauren.” An accurate description of what he was currently wearing at the time of interview: a red and white checkered Ralph Lauren button-down shirt with dark wash jeans. You know what they say, to each his own. Though whatever story your style may tell, remember the most important part of fashion is choosing something that makes you feel like the best version of yourself.
