This year I was able to do something not many sophomores get to do. I was able to be in journalism. Since I want to be a writer, this has been an amazing experience. I got to interview people, although I’m not the best at it. I got to write articles and see different perspectives. Most students don’t like writing, and when they hear there is an essay in a class, they dread it. I, on the other hand, take it as a learning experience to better my skills for what I want to do in the future. This class has made that possible every day.
Although I don’t want to be a reporter or write for newspapers or magazines, I do want to become an author. I want to go to college, get a creative writing degree, and publish my work. All of that is more imaginable because I was able to take this class. I may only be a sophomore, but I have huge ambitions and thanks to Mrs. Symons I have a little more faith in my ability. The thought of college and publishing a book is more real now that I have been in journalism and worked to better my skills. The thought of going to a good college, getting the right education, and following through with my dreams seems more likely now that I have had time to improve my writing.
I was lucky this year to get into journalism, and I will continue taking the class in the next two years. I would advise anyone who likes to write, research, or read to try to get into journalism also. It can help you do amazing things.
