Here at JHS the end is nigh! That’s right; the semester is ending and finals are fast approaching. With this time comes the familiar sounds of the season. Yes, sounds like sprinting through the hallways, the fluttering of important papers, and the always lovable snort of derision given by smart people to the rest of us.
This is the time that students spend rushing around doing make up and extra credit. But there is something that we all need to focus on more than make-up work and running through the hallways: exam preparation! As a great man once said, “Being prepared is how I stay on top of things.” You know who said that? Batman, yes Batman said that. See? Batman stays prepared, so why can’t we? Is it because teachers spend weeks before finals watching movies instead of reviewing? Or is it because finals are just days away and some of them haven’t even been made yet? Or maybe it’s because these finals coincide with the time of year when the flu is ravaging every third person. Or perhaps it’s because school officials were alerted to bullets on the premises one day and a violence threat the next and no one seems to be doing anything about it. No! Of course not! That couldn’t be why we are falling behind on our final studies! It must be procrastination, laziness, and just plain defiant behavior. Obviously the only way to get us to work is with yelling, screaming, and threats galore. I mean, clearly the people who are affected most by our failure to prepare are the parents and teachers, not the students themselves. That’s why they need to yell at us constantly to prepare and not really offer us any ways to do so.
Well, that about wraps up this rant, and it’s too late for this season but next finals season, teachers, parents, remember: we can’t all be Batman, but we can get prepared for our exams without you reminding us.
