Is driving under the influence really worth losing your life? You’re already too young to drink, but this could go for anyone 21 and older, too. You’ve had a few with some friends, just having a good time, and then you realize you need to go home or go somewhere. You say “I’m okay” or “I’m sober,” but are you really? You hop in your car and drive away; your mind isn’t right and everything’s a blur. Then it hits you: a car, anything, comes at you with a force you’ll never feel again. You just wrecked. Was there a passenger? Say you live, and they don’t.. Was it worth it?
I’ve had an experience like this. I wasn’t drinking nor was I in a car with someone who was, but a family member of mine made the choice to drive while intoxicated. It changed my life, theirs, and many others around us. We almost lost this family member. I sit around sometimes wondering why it happened to my family. What did we do? But some things are left unexplained. I’m lucky to say that my family member is alive today and is more careful now.
Life changing experiences happen all the time: some good and some not, but drinking and driving shouldn’t be one of them. It doesn’t matter if you think you’re okay; you’re not. Don’t take the chance because more than likely you’re going to regret it.
