Everyone is looking for a scapegoat, someone to blame for the current world’s problems. In reality, everyone is to blame. Have you ever stopped to think perhaps my lack of actions to promote change is the reason for the lack of change? People want someone to change the world for them so that they may continue with what they are doing or rather what they aren’t doing. We, as a society, are lazy. And this is coming from a lazy 400-pound man. I’m in no way innocent, and I will happily admit to it. The difference, however, is that I recognize this flaw and actively work to change it.
Personally, I have made an effort to start living healthier and to start losing weight. I refuse to drink from plastic bottles unless necessary, I have begun to eat more fruit (at least 2 pieces per day), and I use fewer harmful chemical-containing cleaners and products. Come spring, I plan to walk around the park with my dog.
So, I truly urge my friends, my family, and my peers (you guys) to begin to make a few changes. Nothing that will burden you, but something that you will enjoy that is healthy and productive. As you begin to change, you will find that you are happier and healthier, as will others. Like a domino effect, people will realize that if they take action to promote personal, social, and communal health then others will follow. We aren’t trying to change the world, just better our small slice of it.
In the words of Mahatma Gandhi, “Be the change you want to see in the world.”
