By now, I’m sure you are aware of the events that unfolded Friday, Dec 14. However I wish to bring awareness to the tragic occurrence in Newtown Connecticut.
At the house of Mrs. Lanza, one Adam Lanza murdered his mother. The killer’s motives were and still remain unknown. Shortly afterwards, Lanza proceeded to steal several firearms and a car from his now dead mother. Mrs. Lanza was found dead in her home shortly after. Lanza drove across town to the local elementary school of Sandy Hook.
Lanza somehow managed to break into the school and began to fire off shots from the stolen firearms while walking through the hallways firing at anyone who stood in his way. Many students and teachers heard the shots and began to panic, running for cover throughout the school. When the smoke finally cleared Lanza was found dead, shot with one of his own guns. The death toll at time of writing was 26 dead, including at least 18 children. Many of the victims were found to have been shot multiple times. The school principal, Dawn Hochsprung, was also shot and killed while responding to the sounds of gunfire.
In response to the massacre, President Barack Obama spoke to the citizens of the shattered community saying “We’ve endured too many of these tragedies in the past few years. And each time I learn the news I react not as a President, but as anybody else would — as a parent.” President Obama was visibly disturbed as he held back tears.
As previously stated, the killer’s motives still remain unknown, but some speculation about the suspect’s mental health and his relationship with his mother still circulate and are being investigated. As information becomes available we will learn more in the coming days.
My heart goes out to the families who have endured the loss of their children and other family members. I ask that you keep them in your prayers
