Sara’s Studio of Dance Recital 2016

Olivia Lee, staff writer

The 22nd dance recital for Sara’s Studio of Dance took place on Friday and Saturday this past weekend (May 21 and 22). Thursday, May 20, the girls had a full dress rehearsal at the JHS auditorium that lasted for several hours. On Friday the show began at 7:00pm; however, the dancers were required to be there an hour early to rehearse and get ready.  Saturday’s afternoon show began at 2 and the night show started at 7.  Again, the girls were advised to be there an hour early for each show which allowed for almost no free time in between the two shows.

Sara’s recital has proved to be a popular event in the town of Jacksonville selling out for all three shows for the past couple of years.  Ticket purchasers should order their tickets for the show ahead of time online as soon as possible.  Tickets will not be available at the event and are likely to sell out within the first couple of days of being on sale.  Tickets can be purchased from the Sara’s Studio of Dance website (http://www.sarasstudioofdance.com/).

During the actual show, one will view a variety of dances consisting of all ages and styles of dance.  Sara’s Studio of Dance provides dances with styles ranging from pointe, ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, and poms.  There are also specific classes for girls in the Dance Company and Competition Team.  In order to join the Dance Company, girls must be taking the main dance courses (ballet, tap, jazz, and lyrical) as well as the Dance Company class.  During this class, girls will work on the Opening and Closing performances for both the Company show which takes place in November and the final recital.  In order to join the Competition team, girls must be recommended by Sara herself and must already be in the Dance Company.  The main difference between these two group is that the Competition team travels to different areas to compete with their dances.

Many of the competition routines are displayed throughout the recital.  These routines are usually choreographed by well-known choreographers. These dances can also be viewed at events like the J’ette Pom Review.
