2016 presidential elections

Devon Huff, Staff Writer

The presidential elections are coming up this year on November 8. There are a lot of candidates for United States President. For Democrats there are Hilary Clinton, the only female candidate, and Bernie Sanders. For Republicans the choices include Ben Carson, Ted Cruz, John Kasich, Marco Rubio, and Donald Trump. On the Republican side, Trump is winning at 34.2%. Cruz is at 20.6%, Rubio at 16%, Kasich at 8.6%, and Carson in last at 6.6%. On the Democratic side, Clinton is in the lead with 47.6%, and Sanders at 42%.

Each of these candidates are trying to get votes by giving speeches about goals and promote their campaign. Trump wants to “Make America Great Again” with his 19-point plan. The plan consists of nineteen objectives that Trump will commit to when he is president. Cruz wants to balance America’s budget, end corporate income tax, and block current effort that let undocumented immigrants legally remain in the U.S. Carson wants to “Heal, Inspire, Revive” America by rearming the U.S. military, revitalizing critical alliances, restoring U.S. global leadership, renewing national security establishment, re-evaluating “when” to put American troops in harm’s way, and reviving our economic prosperity. Rubio has a tax proposal that may add 2.9 million jobs and increase the economy by 15%. Kasich also wants to balance the U.S. budget and reform with taxes. Clinton wants to give working families a raise, and tax relief that helps them manage costs, as well as give good-paying jobs and pay rising from investing in infrastructure, clean energy, and scientific and medical research to strengthen our economy. And finally Sanders who has “20 big ideas.”

There are a lot of candidates for president. Almost all of them want to repeal Obamacare, and they all want to fix our economy and lower taxes. If I could vote, I do not know who I would pick. I have no idea who will win the elections, but from the polls, there is a good chance for either Donald Trump on the Republican side or Hillary Clinton on the Democrat side.
