As of the first of January, several laws have come in to effect. All of the laws have been established for the well-being of citizens of the state. The laws range from being in your car to being in a tanning bed and many others in between.
Starting on the first of this January, medical marijuana is now legal in Illinois. With this new law, only 2.5 ounces are allowed over a two week period and must be prescribed by a doctor.
Another new law that has been started is you cannot talk on the phone and drive. Drivers must now use a hands-free headset in order to talk on the phone and drive at the same time. Penalties will also increase if a driver injures or kills someone in a crash cause by the use of a cellular device.
Some interstates have increased the speed limit from 65 miles per hour to 70 miles per hour.
Also, if you are under the age of 18, it is against the law to use a tanning bed in a salon, even with parental permission.
While some teens aren’t old enough to tan, they can vote. Next year, 17 years olds who will be 18 by the November election, can register and vote in the Illinois March 18 primary.
