Everyone has heard ghost stories time and time again. Maybe you’re just telling some stories to friends or telling something you heard was supposedly “true”, but did you ever think about your own hometown being haunted? Jacksonville is said to be incredibly haunted. Many stories of ghosts or spirits have been told throughout the area. Are they true? Here are a few, so you can decide yourself.
At Illinois College, the hall houses are said to have many ghosts of people who have previously been there, one of the most famous being Abraham Lincoln.
Also at Illinois College, after failing to be accepted into a sorority, a girl committed suicide in her room; that room is now haunted by her ghost. Residents of that room can leave and come back to an unlocked door. The lights, music, television, and curling irons will all be on though they were turned off before. Locations of items are moved or will be missing for a few days without explanation. The televisions also turns off randomly while one is watching it.
Jacksonville residents are all talking about a photo that some say shows up at the Jacksonville Developmental Center. Apparently the picture on their facebook page has an African American man dressed in pajamas walking down the physical therapy hallway of the facility. A woman heard a noise one night and decided to take a picture of the area. Others have reported things such as showers turning on by themselves and keys jingling or people whistling.
Some other stories include a house here in Jacksonville where a lady came downstairs from her bedroom to see a ghost of a pregnant woman in the fridge, or of the ghost of the man in the sewer tunnel who comes out at night.
So are you believer? We can never know if all stories are completely true or not, but they sure are fun to think about and tell.
