Jacksonville High School senior Emily Tabeek and junior Katie Hackett were chosen to attend Illinois State Representative, Aaron Schock’s, third annual leadership conference.
The conference was held at University of Illinois in Springfield and included two speakers: Scott Altman, a NASA commander from Peoria, Illinois and Christelle N’Garsanet, the Illinois Central College women’s basketball team assistant coach and a former WNBC athlete. There was also a question and answer session with Aaron Schock.
Both girls agree that the conference was a rewarding experience.
“I was really excited when I found that we were invited. The more hands-on experiences you have outside of school, the more prepared you will be for the future,” Tabeek said.
“It was really cool to be around other students from all over Illinois that are involved in their school in communities, just like us.” Hackett added. “And the speakers were very successful. Hearing their stories inspired us to be the best we can be.”
